‘Preliminary Studies for Eroding Eternity’, 2016
Wood, chemically modified acrylics ( incl. pigments, binders, extenders, solvents,
additives, dispersants, silicones, thixotropic agents, anti-settling agents, bactericides,
fungicides, algaecides and AgNO3) on canvas, light tight wrapping, wood casing,
colour photograph, 72,4 x 72,4 cm
An image taken from Art History. A reproduction of Mondriaan’s ‘Composition
with Double Line and Blue’ (1935), painted with chemically modified paints.
When the work is exhibited, the chemicals in the paint begin a process that alters
the paintings original colours, eventually turning the entire painting black over a
period of time.
